About the Artist

Our scholarship winner this year is Janai Brugger, selected by the faculty at the University of Michigan School of Music. A Chicago native, she has sung with Chicago Opera Theatre and the Grant Park Chorus. She recently won the Marilyn Horne Masterclass Competition which allowed her to participate in a masterclass with Ms. Horne at Carnegie Hall. Ms. Brugger is now starting her second year as a Masters student at the University of Michigan, studying with the renowned soprano Shirley Verrett. She has won many awards: First Place, Union League and Civic Arts Scholarship Foundation Competition, First Place, American Opera Society Competition, and First Place, Chicago National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition.
